Temporary Living Day 8

Funday Sunday

February 13, 2011:

Today was all about having fun.  We started the morning with a large waffle breakfast to fill us up for some fun in the sun and snow.  It was beautiful out today, mid 50's, sun shining, and snow still on the grass.  Lana loved riding on her new inflatable sled.  We had fun sliding her down a small hill by our hotel and we even made a small snowman together.  Check out all the fun we had in the snow today.

New snowpants, thanks Juliana!
Weee!

Making my 1st snowball.
Whoa, this is deep!

Trying to walk in snow.
Look at our cute snowman!

This afternoon we all headed to Denver for some amazing meals.  First we went to Lakewood to find a Danish bakery called Taste of Denmark.  It is on the Denver's Top 7 picks.  We got some tasty treats, a cinnamon roll, piece of kringle (not quite sure what type of sweet bread, but highly recommended), a frog, and another treat wrapped in marzipan.  I had to try a desert with marzipan after seeing a show on Food Network.  It showed a famous Swedish Bakery in Chicago using marzipan to cover cakes and treats.  It has a similar consistency to fondant but it is made with almond paste or flavoring, so it tastes a lot better.  It was soo delicious, and very sweet.  I may try making my own marzipan and try covering a cake with it to get the effect of fondant.  Here are the frogs made with marzipan.

After a Taste of Denmark we ventured into downtown Denver to an amazing restaurant called Steuben's.  We just saw it on Diner's, Drive-in's, and Dives, and we were so excited to hear it was in Denver.  The store use to be a car repair shop and it has been fully renovated.  We sat at a booth right next to the large open doors original to the car shop.  We tried the most popular Maine Lobster rolls, the lobster is flown in every other day and it comes with fresh hand cut fries.  We also got some eggs benedict with chorizo and avocado.  It was the best I have ever had!  Lana devoured her scrambled egg and fresh fruit.  This will be a place to bring family and friends, although parking was a little hard to come by.
Here you can see the three large open doors, the interior is retro and a really cool atmosphere.
What a fun day we had together as a family.  Looking forward to enjoying the parks this week, we are expecting weather in the 60s, beautiful!
